Christmas Rainbow Poke Cake-1979

Ingredients

  • 1 package Super Moist white cake mix
  • 1 package of 3 oz JELL-O brand Raspberry flavor gelatin
  • 1 package of 3 oz JELL-O brand Lime flavor gelatin
  • 2 C boiling water
  • 1 container 8 oz of BIRDS EYE COOL WHIP non dairy whipped topping, thawed

Instructions

Prepare cake mix as directed on package. Pour batter into two round pans, 8 or 9 x 1 1/2 ( DO NOT USE PANS WITH REMOVABLE BOTTOMS) Bake as directed, cool 10 minutes. Remove from pans;cool completely. Place cake layers, top side up, bake in (2 CLEAN pans);prick each layer with utility fork at 1/2 inch intervals. Pour 1 cup boiling over Raspberry flavor gelatin; until dissolved. Spoon Raspberry flavored gelatin over 1 layer.Then REPEAT with Lime flavored gelatin (on other layer). Refrigerate 3-4 hours. DIP on of the pans in warm water 10 seconds;invert on plate, gently shaking to loosen. Remove pan; spread layer with one cup of whipped topping. Remove remaining layer from pan as above; invert on first layer. Remove pan; frost with remaining topping. Refrigerate; garnish with flattened; cut to resemble Holly.

Retro Cranberry-Mallow Pie made with mini marshmallows

Instructions Per Recipe Ad

Dissolve one 3 oz package raspberry flavored Gelatin in 1 C of boiling water

Chill until slightly thickened.

Fold in 1 3/4 Cups (1 can) Cranberry sauce and 1 cup (8 3/4 oz can) crushed pineapple drained.

Pour into chilled 9-inch graham cracker crust;chill till firm.

Melt 2 cups Kraft Miniature marshmallows with 1/4 cup milk in double broiler.

Add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla, and a few dropped green food coloring.

Chill till thickened, mix till well blended.

Fold in 1 cup heavy cream, whipped spread over pie filling.

Chill till firm

6-8 servings

De Luxe Peanut Pie- Karo syrup recipe is from the 1940s.

De Luxe Peanut Pie- Karo syrup recipe is from the 1940’s.

Ingredients per recipe

  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 cup Karo Syrup, Blue Label (dark syrup)
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp. melted butter or margarine
  • 1 cup shelled, roasted peanuts

Directions per recipe

Roll pastry 1/8-inch thick. Line a 9-inch pie pan. Mix remaining ingredients together, adding peanuts last. Pour into pastry shell. Bake in hot oven (400˚F) 40 minutes or until a silver knife inserted in center of filling comes out clean.

To make Peanut Tarts: Follow above recipe for De Luxe Peanut Pie using 1 recipe pastry. Line 6 to 8 individual tart shells. Pour in filling. Bake in hot oven (400˚F) 20 to 25 minutes.

New Nutty Crust “Magic” Lemon Meringue Pie

Ingredients Needed per recipe

  • 1 stick Betty Crocker Instant Mixing Pie Crust Mix
  • 1 cup slivered toasted almonds
  • 1 1/2 cups (15-oz. can) Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. grated lemon rind or 1/4 tsp. lemon extract
  • 3 eggs separated
  • 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar, if desired
  • 6 tbsp. sugar

Instructions per recipe

Take 1/4 cup almond and chop finely, reserve remaining 1/4 cup. Make 9″ pie shell from Betty Crocker Instant Mixing Pie Crust Mix as directed on pkg. — except add chopped almonds with water. Bake shell. Blend Eagle Brand Condensed Milk, lemon juice, rind and egg yolks. Stir until mixture thickens. Pour into cooked baked pie shell. Make meringue by beating egg whites and cream of tartar until frothy, gradually beat in sugar and continue beating until stiff and glossy. Pile on top of filling. Seal to pie crust all around. Garnish with remaining almonds. Brown at 325˚ 15 to 20 min. Cool.

1921 Ad for Campfire Marshmallow~ Marshmallow Salad Recipe

Directions are per Recipe Ad

Ingredients

  • 1 box Campfire Marshmallows
  • 4 slices canned pineapple
  • 2 large oranges
  • 1/2 cup walnut meats
  • Few grains of salt
  • Lettuce
  • Salad dressing (Miracle Whip)

Method

Cut Campfire Marshmallows in thin strips. Drain pineapple, and cut into small cubes

Pare Oranges, remove sections free from membrane, and cut in pieces.

Cut walnut meats in pieces.

Mix ingredients, arrange on a bed of lettuce and serve with Mayonnaise or Cream Salad Dressing.

Directions per recipe ad

  • Put a slab of cream cheese in a shallow bowl and pour A.1. Steak Sauce liberally over it. (Looks like a chocolate sundae.)
  • Circle with crackers or potato chips.

For variety

Blend 1 Tbsp. A.1. Steak Sauce with 4-oz. pkg. cream cheese, add minced clams.

Vintage Babe Ruth War-Time Cookies Recipe

Here’s the war-time recipe for Baby Ruth Cookies. 1940’s

  • 1/2 cup butter or other shortening
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/3 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 Baby Ruth candy bars, cut in small pieces

Directions

Cream butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg. Stir in other ingredients. Chill and drop by half teaspoonfuls on greased cookie sheet. Bake in a moderately hot oven (375˚F) for 10 to 12 minutes. Makes 75 cookies.

Meatball Yummies – Don’t worry I cracked up at the name too! From the Retro Prime Choice Steak Sauce ad.

Here’s how you make Meatball Yummies.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of ground beef
  • 1/3 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoon Prime Choice Steak Sauce
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1/3 cup Prime Choice
  • 2 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoon butter or margarine

Directions
Combine beef, bread crumbs, egg and 2 tbsp. Prime Choice. Mix and shape into 1-inch meatballs. Brown in oil in skillet. Drain fat from skillet. Combine 1/3 cup Prime Choice, brown sugar and butter with meatballs in skillet. Simmer covered for 15 minutes or until done. Makes about 2 dozen meatballs.
